What is included in my multi-day, town-based tour?

Our multi-day, town-based tours include comprehensive pre-trip planning, covering route selection, road and weather conditions, avalanche forecasts, and necessary permits. Each trip is led by a Lead Guide, with an additional guide for larger groups. Accommodation, meals, transportation, lift passes, park passes, and equipment can all be arranged for an extra fee.
What is included in my lodge-based ski or hiking trip?

Our lodge-based ski or hiking trips include full pre-trip planning, covering route selection, avalanche and weather conditions, and permits. Each trip is staffed with 1–2 ACMG guides, a backcountry chef, and a lodge custodian. Helicopter access to and from the lodge is included. All meals are provided for the duration of the trip, and bedding, including a down duvet, pillow, and sheets, is supplied.
What is included in my river trip?
Pre-Trip Planning: A detailed assessment of routes, water levels, weather forecasts, and necessary permits.

Guides: One or more experienced guides to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Food: All meals are provided throughout the trip.

Transportation: Shuttle services during the trip.

Equipment: Boats, paddles, dry bags, tents, tarps, and a full camp kitchen.

Not Included: Transportation to put-in, sleeping bags, sleeping pads/mattresses, and alcohol.
What’s not included in my trip?
Accommodation: Lodging before and after your trip, and all accommodation during town-based trips, is not included.

Food: Meals during town-based tips are not included.

Transportation: Travel to the staging area or heli-port for lodge-based trips, and to the trailhead for town-based trips, is not included.

Passes: Lift tickets (if needed) and National Park passes (if required) are not included unless specified.

Specialized Equipment: Touring gear and avalanche safety equipment is not included. We have some gear and safety equipment available to use. Please contact us.

How does Wildroutes compare to other guiding outfits?
How safe are the trips?

Safety is our top priority. Certified Ski and Hiking Guides with the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG), professional River Guide certified by the British Columbia River Outfitters Association (BCROA), and professional Avalanche Forecasters with the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA). All guides are certified in Advanced Wilderness First Aid. Traveling in the mountains and on the river is not without risk. We will do our very best to mitigate any risks and explain the conditions so we can make proper decisions as a team. Every participant will be required to sign a waiver to participate in the trip.
Is Wildroutes a good fit for me?

Winter Trips: Our winter guests generally have backcountry and touring experience, though we welcome newcomers with a strong background in downhill riding. Most guests bring their own equipment and safety gear, but we can provide both upon request.

Summer Trips: Our river trips are ideal for first-timers, and our hiking options range from easy to advanced. Our tips are tailored to each client’s preferences and skill level.
What level of fitness is required?
When is the best time to visit in winter?
Our ski season typically starts in November (sometimes even late October) and lasts until May, offering unique conditions across each part of the season:

December/January (Powder Months): Each winter month has something amazing to offer. December and January are known for powder, with deep, fresh snow and shorter days. February and March offer a good mix of sun and snow, great for getting into the alpine and skiing some bigger peaks. Spring conditions in April and May mean long, sunny days ideal for reaching high summits and extended backcountry tours.

February/March (Prime Time): Expect a good mix of sun and snow. Longer days and better chances of sunny skies means we are more likely to get into the alpine and ski some bigger peaks. It can also snow a lot during this time of year, offering the best of both worlds!

April/May (Spring Conditions): Expect long, sunny days and high summits. Spring skiing is a guide’s favourite, most do more personal days in these months than any other. Stable weather and generally more stable snow allow for longer, interesting tours. Often, climbing up in the sun in our base layers and skiing cold powder on the polar aspects.
When should I book by?

Book early! Backcountry skiing and splitboarding have had a massive boom in the last five years. Maybe it’s the $200 lift passes or maybe folks have finally realized the freedom of touring. Either way, we suggest you plan well in advance. Most of our returning clients reserve lodge-based trips up to two years in advance and town-based trips about a year in advance. Booking early ensures you secure your spot and don’t miss out on your Wildroutes adventure.
Are all trips private, or are groups combined?
Should I purchase trip insurance?

YES—trip insurance is highly recommended. As a small company, cancellations can be complex: trip planning begins well in advance, with cooks hired and supplies purchased. Finding a last-minute replacement for your trip can be challenging. Most lodges have their own refund policies, from full to none, so it’s essential to understand the terms. Additionally, trip costs are often shared among group members, meaning prices may adjust if someone in your group cannot make it. Please refer to our cancellation policy for further details. All Wildroutes Lodge trips come with evacuation insurance in case of injury.
